Preschoolers with ADHD: To Medicate or Not?
Product Description:
A clinical practice guideline by the
AAP steering committee on ADHD published in
Pediatrics in 2011 reviewed the treatment of
children with ADHD from 4 to 18 years of age.
The guideline suggested in the 4 to 5 year age
group behavioral therapy should be used first but
in some situations medication (methylphenidate)
may be necessary. Many children age 4 years
and under are often treated with several different
medications. Is this appropriate? Should
children under the age of 5 years be treated with
stimulants? How do you know when the disorder is
severe enough to treat a preschooler?
