Jennifer Morgan, MEd

Special Education PhD Student, Department of Educational Psychology, Center on Disability and Development at Texas A&M University


"As a person with a disability, a mother of two adolescents with disabilities, and an experienced special educator, Jennifer brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the college classroom to support preservice teachers in involving and fully engaging families of children with developmental disabilities in their child’s educational programming. Equally important, she models for college students with disabilities how to advocate for their accommodations and excel in higher education.” 

Biography

Jennifer M. Morgan is a 3rd year Special Education doctoral student in the Department of Educational Psychology, mom of two children with disabilities, and an individual with a disability. Her research interests include early identification and interventions for dyslexia and teacher preparation. For the last five semesters she has served as the teacher assistant for the Family Engagement and Empowerment course. Through direct teach, discussions, case studies and other high impact practices, Jennifer provides undergraduate, pre-service teachers with the knowledge, tools, and skills needed to collaborate with individuals with disabilities and their families, school districts, service providers, etc. to ensure positive outcomes for individuals with disabilities and their families. In addition to being a teacher assistant, Jennifer is a graduate assistant for the Heart of Texas GEAR UP program working with high school students receiving services in special education. Through this program Jennifer provides one-on-one college and career counseling and mentoring related to attendance and grades, discipline, and self-advocacy for high school students with disabilities. Jennifer also facilitates tutoring sessions between identified high school students and undergraduate, pre-service teachers through rapport building and mentoring. Jennifer is currently the Disability Sub-Commissioner for the Diversity Commission for Texas A&M Student Government Association. Through this role, Jennifer works alongside members of the Texas A&M University community to ensure accessibility and inclusiveness of individuals with disabilities on campus.
