Finding Our Voice is a video that highlights four American Indian youth participating in transition activities to prepare them for life after high school. The video includes a 45-minute DVD films youth who participated in transition skill-building activities that allow them to develop and practice those skills. Finding Our Voice illustrates students participating in adventure and service-based programming, through which they experience positive personal growth, develop goal-setting and self-advocacy skills-all which enhance students' confidence and abilities to become leaders in their communities. Four youth who participated in transition skill-building activities through ETC are filmed in different environments-home, school, community centers' demonstrating how they utilize the transition skills they learned. Students discuss the positive life changes they have experienced from their participation in these programs, such as higher expectations for themselves, a stronger connection to their community, and a sense of pride in their American Indian heritage. A Resource Manual, provided on disc, accompanies the DVD complete with discussion questions, lesson plans and activities. Finding Our Voice is a stand alone learning tool but it also serves as an excellent companion piece to the Expanding the Circle: Respect the Past, Preparing for the Future published in 2002 at the University of Minnesota, Institute on Community Integration by Jean E. Ness and Jennifer S. Huisken.
