The primary purpose of this research was to determine the perceptions teachers and parents of students with ASD in Maine about the training needs of both regular and special educators who provide instruction to students with these diagnoses. In addition, we examined teacher perceptions about the extent to which they believed they had the skills, knowledge, and preparation to teach students with ASD. Teachers were also asked about the types of strategies that they currently use, the role of paraprofessionals, the support the get from administrators, and about the extent to which students with ASD are welcomed in their school.
