Since P.L. 99-457, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), was passed in 1986, the role of physicians and health care providers has been critical to the success of early intervention services and programs. It is difficult, however, to involve these professionals in an active way in early childhood programs due to the demands of their schedules and the nature of their jobs.
