George Gotto joined the University of Missouri Kansas City Institute for Human Development, Missouri's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) in 2009 and was named as the Director in 2019. During his tenure at IHD he also served as a Principle Investigator, Associate Director, and Interim Director. He holds a joint appointment as Research Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical and Health Informatics, UMKC School of Medicine. He also serves as director of the Interdisciplinary Leadership in Disability Studies certificate at UMKC.
Dr. Gotto works throughout the state of Missouri to conduct community-based research and training projects primarily related to health and wellness for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). He is a founding member of the Missouri Self-Determination Association (MO-SDA). He is also the past president of the Missouri Chapter of the American Association of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (MOAAIDD).
